Rigips Managing Director Werner Hansmann guided the Minister of Economics on a tour around important themes in the industry: raw material supplies and recycling of construction waste. "The supply of the trade with REA gypsum from the Raugas /exhaust gas desulphurization of German coal-fired power plants has become more difficult in recent years. We can see a complementary solution in the increased use of recycled plaster. This is produced in the demolition of buildings for example. However, in order to be able to make use of this source of raw materials, it is important that the requirements of the Closed Substance Cycle Management Act are implemented in practice. According to it, materials should only be disposed of at landfill sites, if further use of them is not economically viable. Gypsum, however, is a material which is characterized by its almost unlimited recyclability. Nevertheless, currently these valuable raw materials from plasterboards are being transported to the increasingly scarce landfill sites", according to Hansmann. He is therefore demanding, above all, the observance of the waste hierarchy, so that this great potential for sustainability is also exhausted.
