Responsible development in the construction industry was an important issue at this year's WeberAkademie. This applies to individual buildings, but in particular to urban development. Because here there was agreement: a reduction in CO2 emissions, energy-efficient buildings and comfort for their users requires intelligeCities cover only 2% of the earth's surface, simultaneously, however, half the world's population lives in them. And they are continuing to grow rapidly. Cities consume 75% of the Earth's total energy and are 90% dependent on oil. It is, therefore, obvious that solutions are needed here which, above all, in the age of climate change, ensure a positive overall energy balance of buildings.
Building material innovations against this global background
The construction industry should not only provide the foundations for energetically-sound buildings. Much more than that, it plays an important role when it comes to our future. The construction industry is in a position to save resources on a very broad scale, and it can make a significant contribution to sustainable development, both economically and ecologically. It offers private home-owners the basis for sophisticated homes with a high level of comfort, which are at the same time affordable. But it is also possible to indicate the right way to go to the constructors of and investors in large-capacity buildings.
